Indication: Foundayo is indicated for use in combination with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to reduce excess body weight and maintain weight reduction long term in adults with obesity, or adults with overweight in the presence of at least one weight-related comorbid condition. Lilly plans to submit for type 2 diabetes in 2026.

Mechanism of Action: Orforglipron is the first small-molecule (nonpeptide) GLP-1 receptor agonist approved for obesity, meaning it can be taken at any time of day without food or water restrictions unlike the current semaglutide (Wegovy) pill. As a small molecule, the active ingredient is easier for the body to absorb in pill form, mimicking the effects of peptide GLP-1 drugs without the dosing restrictions associated with peptide-based oral therapies.
