Postdoctoral Positions at Harvard University, Massachusetts – August 2023

Harvard University is in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is in the Boston metropolitan region and provides students with a multitude of cultural, intellectual, and professional options. Here, there are multiple openings for Postdoctoral researchers in various streams.

Harvard is renowned for its rigorous academic programs and world-class faculty. It offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees in a wide range of fields, including arts and sciences, business, law, medicine, engineering, and more.

1. Postdoctoral Research Position in Statistical Genetics and Genomics at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

Harvard University has an open position in Statistical Genetics and Genomics, under the Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in statistical genetics and genomics is available at Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. This position involves developing and applying statistical and machine learning methods for analysis of high-throughput genetic and genomic data, including large scale Whole Genome Sequencing association studies, integrative analysis of genetic and genomic data, high-dimensional phenotype analysis, causal mediation analysis and Mendelian Randomization, Polygenic risk scores, and analysis of biobanks. We seek an individual with strong statistical, computing, and genetic backgrounds and who has expertise in statistical and computational methods for big data, statistical genetics and genomics. The work will involve both methodological research with department faculty and collaboration with subject matter researchers and investigators in large consortia.

2. Postdoctoral Fellow Position in The Neural Basis of Aggression at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences

Harvard University has an open position in the Neural Basis of Aggression at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences under the Department of Human Evolutionary Biology.

Broadly, the Evolutionary Neuroscience Laboratory studies how brains change in response to selection pressure on behavior, and how brains acquire heritable adaptations for complex, learned behaviors.  Comparisons between modern humans and our living primate relatives provide a way to address this question in the context of our own evolutionary history, while domestication provides an additional window on brain-behavior evolution.  The lab uses a variety of experimental and computational tools, such as structural and functional neuroimaging, histology and digital microscopy, and behavior analysis.

3. Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Causal Inference for Cancer Control at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health have open positions for Postdoctoral researchers for Causal Inference for Cancer Control, under the Department of Epidemiology.

The postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by Dr. Barbra Dickerman and work closely with other team members, including faculty and researchers in the CAUSALab and Zhu Family Center for Global Cancer Prevention, as well as external collaborators. Our team conducts cutting-edge research using large health databases to improve health decision-making. Results from our research have informed recommendations for the treatment and prevention of multiple diseases and contributed to the innovation of methods to generate valid evidence from real world data.

4. Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Evolutionary biology of Streptococcus pneumonia at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health have open postdoctoral positions in the Evolutionary biology of Streptococcus pneumonia at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, under the Department of Epidemiology.

The postdoctoral research fellow will lead work to extend our understanding of the role of negative frequency-dependent selection in Streptococcus pneumoniae. This concept that Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) population structure is determined by a process of negative frequency-dependent selection on the accessory genome has been supported by both cross sectional and longitudinal comparisons, with the advent of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines providing a strong perturbation to test the hypothesis (1, 2). Many questions persist about the generality of this phenomenon, the mechanism by which it operates, the genes involved, and so forth. The postdoctoral research fellow will lead work to devise and apply approaches to answer these remaining questions with the scientific goal of understanding the mechanism, and the public health goal of improving predictions of evolutionary trajectories. This work will be with Drs. Lipsitch and Hanage, and collaborators in other institutions.
